I spent a fair bit of today relaxing in the lounge area, continuing to recharge electronics and reading. We went for a bit of a walk through town and down to the lakefront and I ate brunch while we were out. Belinda went for another walk later in the day to buy a couple of things and send some stuff home. We did experience another downpour today as the localised thunderstorms in the central south island eventuated as promised. It’s not the weather system that is currently giving the upper half of the North Island a beating luckily - it is just thunderstorms popping up as a result of warmer air in the lower atmosphere and cooler air higher up - so shouldn’t affect our walking particularly. Later in the afternoon I wandered up to reception to ask Anna (she and husband Brad lease the camp of Brad’s parents) what time the kitchen opened. After responding that “it never shuts”, I said that we were wanting to get underway fairly early so we can hitch to Princhester Rd. She responded that she was heading that way in the morning and could give us a lift if we wanted - things just go your way sometimes :-) So we planned for an 0830 departure - we were not planning a big day tomorrow so no early start was required.

AuthorBelinda and Anthony (aka Tony) Hadfield made a decision, in their late 50's, to do something a "bit different" and walk New Zealand's 3000km Te Araroa Trail over summer 2015/16 - although updates will now tell you that this plan will take longer now!!. As the old saying goes - "don't leave home 'til you've seen the country"!! Archives
