Who We Are
We live on the beautiful Kapiti Coast in New Zealand. While the header picture is taken from part of the farm behind Paraparaumu (at a height of around 300m ASL in this case), the panorama sunset just below is taken from our front verandah (30m ASL). You can just see the South Island on the horizon at the left of the photo - Mt Tapuae-o-uenuku can be seen on a fine day just behind the trees to the left. The unmistakable Kapiti Island is centre-left. The right of the photo looks north - again, a fine day sees views of Mt Ruapehu just by the large macrocarpa tree that occupies the right of the photo. Not a bad place to live all in all!!
Belinda teaches Wild Goose Qigong and Chun Yuen Quan (explained on her website) and works on her family farm. Tony has spent most of the last 20+ years working in R&D funding and management and currently mixes a bit of consulting work with helping Belinda with some of the more physical tasks on the farm (fencing etc).
As noted on the home page, we decided, at Belinda's instigation, to take the opportunity to do something a bit different - maybe before we got too old for it!! We are really looking forward to the challenge of walking the length of the country: looking forward to the new adventures, as well as catching up with friends around the country (showers and warm, soft beds!!) and meeting new people along the trail. Can't wait.....!
One of the places Belinda uses for some of her classes Often using the grassy area right alongside the river) is the Otaihanga Boating Club - perched right alongside the Waikanae River, near the river mouth. As chance (fate??) would have it, Te Araroa runs along the south bank of the Waikanae River just in front of the OBC (having crossed from the north bank over a footbridge just east of the OBC)! So she has, over the last few months, talked with several TA hikers as they have "wandered" past.
